Rimonabant

Rimonabant is the generic version of the weight loss medication Acomplia. Rimonabant is the active ingredient in Acomplia so rimonabant pills work in precisely the same way. They just cost less, so the benefits of what has been called 'the best diet pill' are now available to many more people fighting obesity.

What makes rimonabant so different?

Rimonabant works differently from old-fashioned diet pills. Phentermine, the original diet pill, was introduced in the 1950s and works like an amphetamine by speeding up your heart rate. Diet Pills like this have a potential for abuse and can be dangerous.

In contrast, generic rimonabant is in a new class of drugs called cannaboid-receptor-blockers. Effectively, it works on the brain's receptor sites that control craving for food.
